Don’t miss the stunning Japanese art collection and the iconic Egyptian mummies. I particularly love the galleries that leave virtually no open space on the walls, showing just how big their collection truly is. Decor goals!

Chihuly Garden and Museum of Glass
This museum/garden combo is the ultimate celebration of color and creativity in Seattle! I frequented this museum when in graduate school, and it is truly a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Raleigh! This vibrant museum boasts a diverse collection of artwork spanning many genres, forms, techniques, and cultures. From ancient Egyptian artifacts to contemporary sculptures, there’s something here for everyone. Don’t miss the iconic Rodin sculpture garden and the impressive collection of European masterpieces. Plus, the museum’s expansive park features outdoor art installations and scenic walking trails, making it the perfect destination for a day of cultural exploration and outdoor adventure.


Frist Art Museum
Frist Art Museum is Nashville’s premier destination for art and culture. I have gone on many dates here in college and it was the perfect location with plenty of icebreakers! Housed in a stunning historic building, this vibrant museum offers a dynamic range of exhibitions and programs that celebrate creativity in all its forms. From contemporary photography to classic paintings, there’s always something new and exciting to discover here. Be sure to check out their signature Martin ArtQuest Gallery, where visitors of all ages can unleash their inner artist through hands-on activities and interactive exhibits. With its lively atmosphere and diverse event schedule featuring local talent, the Frist Art Museum is a must-visit destination for locals and tourists alike.



Norton Museum of Art
Norton Museum of Art is a cultural oasis (with great air conditioning!) in the heart of West Palm Beach. This charming museum has a surprisingly diverse collection of artworks spanning centuries and continents. This museum underwent a major renovation and upgrade in the past few decades and I am very proud of this investment in my hometown! Be sure to explore their impressive collection of American art, featuring works by Georgia O’Keeffe, Jackson Pollock, and Edward Hopper. Don’t miss the museum’s beautiful outdoor sculpture garden and tranquil reflecting pool, perfect for a leisurely stroll on a sunny day or for their regular movie or Jazz music nights.


Rubell Museum

Glenstone
I had one of the best days of my life at this serene sanctuary for art and nature lovers alike. Tucked away in the picturesque landscape of unassuming Potomac, Maryland, this breathtaking museum offers a unique blend of contemporary art and tranquil surroundings. Wander through the museum’s serene galleries, which showcase a carefully curated collection of modern and contemporary artworks. Be sure to explore the sprawling grounds, where lush gardens and outdoor sculptures create a harmonious dialogue between art and nature. With its serene beauty and immersive experience, Glenstone Museum is a true hidden gem in the DC area if you are able to get there by car.


Portland Museum of Art
Maine’s premier destination for creativity and culture is right there in the heart of downtown Portland. I was surprised by the diverse and large collection of artworks. From classic American paintings to contemporary sculptures, there’s something here to inspire and delight visitors of all ages, and we saw many kids enjoying the space the day we went. Be sure to check out their impressive collection of Winslow Homer paintings, as well as their rotating exhibitions featuring works by local and international artists. With its welcoming atmosphere and engaging programs, the Portland Museum of Art is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a vibrant cultural experience in Maine.


Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts
Philly’s oldest art museum and school is located in the heart of Center City, making it very easy to get to. This historic institution boasts a rich legacy of artistic excellence spanning over two centuries. Explore their impressive collection of American art, featuring works by iconic artists such as Mary Cassatt, Thomas Eakins, and Winslow Homer. The most unique feature is their renowned museum school, where aspiring artists hone their craft under the guidance of world-class instructors. With its vibrant exhibitions and commitment to artistic innovation, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts is a cultural cornerstone of Philadelphia.


Walters Art Museum
Housed in a beautiful historic building, we stumbled upon this museum in Baltimore after eating brunch nearby. I was surprised by the ceramics, textiles, and sculptures. Don’t miss the museum’s stunning courtyard, where lush gardens and fountains create a tranquil oasis in the heart of the city. With its rich history and engaging exhibitions, the Walters Art Museum is a true treasure of Baltimore’s cultural landscape and shows that there is a true dedication to preserving art and history in the city. The docents here were also some of the nicest people in the DMV area.

With its intimate atmosphere and engaging programming, the Renwick Gallery offers a unique cultural experience in the nation’s capital. Don’t forget to lay on the ground to really take in the beauty of the famous colorful ceiling installation in the building’s grandest room.
